Blue Gum Morning 2020 oil acrylic and ink on plywood 90x65cm
‘Blue Gum Morning’ celebrates the beauty and grandeur of the Blue Gum Forest situated in the Grose Valley, Blue Mountains National Park, NSW. Having hiked in this area for many years, I am constantly fascinated by the effects of light that filter through the vast vertical pattern of trees. Depending on the time of day, these 600 year old trees can range in colour from pure white to lilac and rich salmon pinks providing a rich sensory experience of the forest. They stand testament to the ancient stories of the Blue Mountains, whispering their secrets between themselves as they prevail.

The Boral Quarries-Dunmore NSW 2019 oil and acrylic on board 20x20cm
Nestled in the rolling green hills of southern NSW, this quarry sits bearing witness: to weather, changes in light and the explosion of residential and commercial development across the highway over time, a place in the grip of change. It is a confronting disruption of the natural setting that surrounds it, cleaved into the pristine hills revealing age-old geology yet beautiful in its many guises.
I have watched as this visible segment of the hard rock quarry changes in character, learning more about its role as a story-teller of place and artefact of this region’s industrial identity and aspiration.
The importance of mark-making and the power of intuitive response has been a focal point in the creation of this work.
